It isn't as bad as you think. Or maybe it is.
Another week has passed and we're back with the climate updates! This is "Let's balance out" and you'll read one good news and one bad news about the climate crisis. Shall we begin?
So what do you want first? The good news or the bad news?
The insurance firm Swiss Re led an analysis that says that 1/5 of the world's ecosystems are at risk of collapsing
. This is caused by the destruction of the habitats in countries like Australia, Israel and South Africa. The list of the countries
at risk is various, some like Brazil and Indonesia still have large intact areas and they are strongly dependant on nature for their economy.
It's important to protect ecosystems from human activity, because they also generate natural services like food, water, clean air, that all of us benefit from.
While we are surrounded by bad climate news, we must always remember the successes that environmentalism brought to society
. If we look at the history of the movement it's easy to see all the differences it made, just think about the fact that 30 years ago nuclear tests were still taking place.
It's hard to see all the accomplishments because the climate fight
is never-ending in some sense, there will always be problems and we will always have to battle for the protection of some part of the planet, but I suggest you read this article
by The Guardian that will surely give a positive boost to your will to fight for the climate!
