Another week has passed and we're back with the climate updates! This is "Let's balance out" and you'll read one good news and one bad news about the climate crisis. Shall we begin?
So what do you want first? The good news or the bad news?
I don't know if this is actually a good news, for sure it's an interesting one! According to The Guardian, the future of food lies in insects. The UN section of Food and Agricolture has encouraged people to start using insects as food, as it could be a valid alternative to make our meals more sustainable.
We have talked about how eating meat is not the best choice if we want to help the environment, and there are a lot of alternatives to that already (vegan and vegetarian choices). And insects may just be another one of them! In particular, they are versatile: you can farm them everywhere and they don't destroy land. As of now, many are farming them to feed them to other animals, but who knows, maybe we can benefit from their proteins as well!
P.S. I have eaten insects once, they taste of nothing, so don't worry!
According to this article by the BBC, a report made by Rhodium Group shows how China has emitted 27% of the world's greenhouse gasses in 2019. They are followed by the US (11%) and India (6.6%).
China has pledged to reduce to zero its emissions by 2060, and they have been saying it also in the climate summit organised by Biden last month. China still is heavily reliant on coal power, though.
