It isn't as bad as you think. Or maybe it is.

Another week has passed and we're back with the climate updates! This is "Let's balance out" and you'll read one good news and one bad news about the climate crisis. Shall we begin?

So what do you want first? The good news or the bad news?

BAD NEWS

A few weeks ago we have talked about how dangerous greenwashing and how we have to be careful to it. The world's biggest fossil fuels companies have been doing that a lot in their advertising to hide their ongoing contribution to the climate crisis. A group of environmental lawyers called ClientEarth have been comparing the companies' advertising with their operations and products.

As reported on The Guardian: "We're currently witnessing a great deception, where the companies most responsible for catastrophically heating the planet are spending millions on advertising campaigns about how their business plans are focused on sustainability," said Johnny White, one of ClientEarth's lawyers."

Here you can read the full report and which companies are involved.

GOOD NEWS

Somewhat like Batman, there are some silent climate guardians all over the world who are doing what they can to help the planet. They're basically a group of people that are tracking down and destroying the hidden causes of global heating.
We are talking about some gases that have the even more warming potential than carbon dioxide, and they are mostly used in refrigeration.

The problem is that these gasses are not always disposed of in the correct way, and this makes the work of people like Ángel Toledo very important. He runs a waste disposal company in Guatemala and for three years he has been working on disposing refrigerant gases that are contained in refrigerant canisters or fridges.

As we read on the BBC: "Ángel is part of a chain of people working to stop these gases causing damage to the planet. Teams from Tradewater, a company funded through climate offsetting, are working around the world negotiating with governments, private companies and individuals to find ways to find, secure and destroy the gases safely."
