Hey there! I just realized that it's been a while since I've written an article about cinema. To tell the truth, it's been a while since I've seen one. Have you ever had one of those moments where you feel like you have loads of things to do but non of them is something that you actually enjoy? I'm having one right now and I decided that, even if I have to study, exercise, read or anything else, I will find time to watch films again. Oscar nominations motivated me. On Monday the Academy announced the nominees and I couldn't not talking about it.
There are a lot of things to be happy about. Not one but TWO women are nominees as best director: Chloé Zhao (Nomaland) and Emerald Fennel (Promising young woman). Together with them we also find other brilliant directors such as David Fincher, Thomas Vinterberg and Lee Isaac Chung. This last one is also the first Korean-American between the best director nominees.
Viola Davis and Chadwick Boseman from the film Ma Rainey's Black Bottom are nominated for the best actor and actress category. Mank (Fincher) has the lead in the number of nominations with 10. It follows Minari, Nomaland and the Trial of the Chicago 7 with 6. Last, Promising young woman with 5.
