Let's balance out

It isn't as bad as you think. Or maybe it is.

Another week has passed and we're back with the climate updates! This is "Let's balance out" and you'll read one good news and one bad news about the climate crisis. Shall we begin?

So what do you want first? The good news or the bad news?

Do you remember the fires in Australia earlier this year? Quite difficult to forget, but anyway. Apparently the bushfire season that destroyed hectares of land, that devastated homes and that shocked us all was predicted in mid-2019. The Bureau of Meteorology warned of the severity of fire season and made forecasts available to fire agencies and governments in the middle of the year.

Plus, on Monday, they told that fires of this scale will occur with greater frequency as the climate continues to heat.

The European Union has decided to invest €20bn a year to protect and boost biodiversity.

The plan lasts 10 years and it's part of the European Green Deal, its aim is to reduce the use of chemical pesticides by 50%, plant 3bn trees by 2030 and reverse the decline of pollination.

The goal is to protect 30% of EU's land and oceans by 2030.
