Have you ever heard the phrase "fashion is stupid"? And did you believe it? Well, if you did, you're wrong.
Let me explain. Don't you think fashion is art?
I mean, it's something personal, that you can customize according to your personality and preferences. The only difference between fashion and art is that fashion is for everybody and it's a more accessible art form, also in terms of supplies.
But, of course, not everybody is good at it, just like any art form. You can just pair a simple t-shirt and a pair of jeans and call it a day, but this way you'll never be at the same level as somebody who matches their accessories and make-up to their clothes.
There's so much to fashion, because you can change every single aspect of it, EVERY DAY! And, also, it's portable! You can take your clothes everywhere you go and show your art to every person that sees you.
(Also, you need to wear clothes, if you don't want to get fined). You wouldn't have the same effect with a large painting; you'd just annoy the people on the metro and it'd probably end up smashed between the passengers.
But fashion can also say a lot about your personality and the things you like. In fact, here I wrote about the importance of wearing your fandom, and how you can wear it.

Fashion is so awesome and I really wish more people knew this, instead of stereotyping the people who love it (especially girls, but not only).
We're not stupid if we think a bit longer about our outfits and that doesn't mean we can't have a conversation about something that isn't fashion. And it doesn't even mean that our art is worthless and we won't be able to have a career in the field or we'll die out of hunger.
This is something that makes me sooooooo mad! People disregard art (specifically fashion) because it's 'just pretty' and '*I* could do that too'. Well, if you could, do it then! We'd welcome you unlike some people! (I'm talking about you). Sorry for the rant, but it needed to be said.
The world would be a really sad place without the arts. Think about it: no movies, no paintings, no drawings, no books, no poetry, no photos, no music... Not even colors! How sad would that be?
To my fellow artists, keep on doing what you love. Those people who judge you will soon realize how talented you are and that fashion isn't stupid.
