Let's balance out

It isn't as bad as you think. Or maybe it is.

Another week has passed and we're back with the climate updates! This is "Let's balance out" and you'll read one good news and one bad news about the climate crisis. Shall we begin?

So what do you want first? The good news or the bad news?

A new research by the journal Nature Climate Change shows that the melting of the Brewster glacier in New Zealand in 2018 was 10 times more likely caused by human impact on global heating. In the monitoring of the glacier, while in other years there was always snow, there was none in 2018.

This is one of the many examples on what an hell of an impact we humans have on the climate. We need to do something.

In the first six months of the year, more coal power plants closed than opened. For example in India they have come to a near halt, and it looks like the lockdown has been an occasion for countries to rethink their energy plans, given the fact that in many places clean energy is now way cheaper than other options.
