Hello nerdy and non-nerdy friends!

I'm Sofia, your local superhero expert, and I'm here to ponder a very important question: Why do superheroes wear masks?
In my opinion there are two different reasons, and they're probably both true. The first one is said in many tv shows about superheroes, the second one is a theory I have. Let's get into it!

1- TO PROTECT THE PEOPLE THEY LOVE

This is pretty obvious, and also wise. Superheroes wear masks to conceal their identities, so that the criminals they face, or maybe creepy fans, won't be able to find out where they live and work and also who their friends and family are. The villains could just go to their home and endanger their loved ones' lives, to manipulate the heroes. That's scary stuff, so no wonder they wear masks.

2- TO BE THEMSELVES

I know, I know, it's weird, but hear me out. How can you be yourself if you're wearing a mask? Well, because you have nothing to lose. You can do whatever you want, like flirt with a cute girl or say some stupid pun, without fear, because nobody will know it's you. It's something refreshing, really.

And that could explain why superheroes are more themselves when they are in their costumes. They don't get embarrassed, because they know they won't be recognized. They have a second chance at being themselves, to choose how they want to be.

So, this was my weird theory, let me know what you think about it by sending an email at [email protected]!
